Save Money With This Tip

I love to cook with fresh herbs. Using fresh herbs really kicks up the flavor of a dish. There’s nothing like the scent of fresh cilantro sprinkled over quinoa or fresh basil laid over tomatoes with a drizzle of really good extra virgin olive oil. But, when was the last time you bought fresh herbs and used them all? I always have leftover herbs and I used to just throw them away, what a waste of money! So, here’s a money saving tip, freeze your fresh herbs.
- Wash and dry herbs really well. I sometimes use my salad spinner for this.
- Lay the herbs on a baking sheet in one layer.
- Place in the freezer for about 20 minutes or until they are frozen.
- Place herbs in a ziplock bag and place in the freezer. If you’re not familiar with the look of the herb be sure to mark the bag.
- When you’re ready to use the herbs, remove what you need and either set them aside to defrost or run them under cold water.
The herbs will be as fresh smelling and tasting as they were when you froze them but the texture will be a bit mushy.
